Salesforce.com is touted as the next big thing in CRM. At times, Analysts have also dared to compare it to Siebel CRM. Some of them have even gone onto believe that Salesforce.com will eventually gain marketshare at Siebel’s expense.

Though this remains to be seen, Salesforce.com with it Cloud Computing prowess and PaaS methodology does present a compelling case.

Till now, we had heard only the good things about it. Recently, I came across a very interesting article, “10 Reasons Not to Adopt Salesforce.com for Customer Relationship Management” by Partho. Following are the reasons he outlines:

1. Integration and extensions
2. Dashboard
2. Functionality (point 2 repeated. Guess it makes 11 reasons in all !)
3. Not apt for sell services
4. System downtime
5. Back office functionality
6. No SLA(service level agreement)
7. Multi-tenant architecture
8. Data Quality
9. Add-ons
10. Lacks website/web store

Barring a couple of points that I don’t agree with, I guess Partho has a very interesting case!

Claus Moldt, the VP of Service Delivery at Salesforce recently made the announcement that Salesforce’s Singapore Data Center is now Live!! Salesforce claims that this new Data Center in Singapore will help accelerate Customer Adoption, and most importantly, customer success, with the enterprise cloud computing worldwide.

All of us know Salesforce as the pioneers in the SaaS CRM space. And, with the high number of existing customers, they are going to be there for quite some time! Salesforce, though, was known to be pretty strong in Americas, their foothold in Asia was not all that successful. A lot was attributed to the sluggish Asian economy.

However, things changed with the appearance of some of the other CRM vendors to be geography with high successes. That changed the game for Salesforce, who probably started reading the geography better with an increased focus.

We feel this would definitely add to the customer service, with better connectivity, disaster recovery, mirroring, and better response times for the APAC customers. Go Salesforce!

You can read the official Salesforce release here.
